We set up and run structured chess clubs in schools, from the very first "how the pieces move" session to competitive teams. Each club follows the academy's level system, so every child is challenged at their own pace while the club stays fun, sociable and easy for staff to host.
The academy's coaches include Grandmasters, FIDE Masters and experienced teachers, and our school programmes draw on the same structured curriculum we use with over 1,000 students online — adapted for the classroom, the lunch hall or the after-school slot.
We handle the teaching and structure; the school provides a room and the enthusiasm arrives on its own.
Clubs follow the academy's curriculum with clear levels, so children genuinely improve rather than just playing casual games each week.
Chess is one of the best-documented tools for developing young minds — and it works just as well for quiet pupils as for competitive ones.
Before founding London Chess Academy, Shir Bar Tal held a leadership role at LA Chess Club and taught chess in private schools across Beverly Hills and Brentwood — including St Timothy School, St Martin of Tours School, Hillel Hebrew Academy and Sinai Akiba Academy.
